Welcome to Hatters Hostel Liverpool
Hatters Hostel Liverpool stands as a vibrant, budget-friendly haven nestled in the heart of Liverpool’s city centre at 56-60 Mt Pleasant. With a solid rating of 3.7, the hostel appeals predominantly to travelers looking for clean, no-frills accommodation with a strong sense of community and convenience.
The hostel’s character is deeply rooted in its historic building, which evokes a vintage charm, especially in its bar and dining areas. Guests consistently highlight the friendly and accommodating staff, who bring warmth and helpfulness to the experience, elevating it well beyond typical hostel service. The social atmosphere combined with attentive service makes for a welcoming environment, ideal for solo adventurers and groups alike.
Rooms at Hatters Hostel vary from shared dormitories to family rooms, all described as clean and tidy, though some reviews point to the building's age and the simplicity of the furnishings. While the rooms lack luxury, with a functional but stark design, features like bed curtains provide a semblance of personal privacy – a thoughtful touch appreciated by guests. The hostel is extremely well maintained in terms of cleanliness, with shared bathrooms kept in impeccable condition, which is often a rare highlight for budget accommodations.
The hostel’s location is an undeniable asset. Positioned in a redeveloping area filled with media companies, and near iconic sites like the Metropolitan Cathedral and the vibrant Cavern Club, it offers guests easy walkable access to Liverpool’s thriving cultural scene. This makes it perfect for those eager to explore the urban village of Paddington or soak up the city’s energetic vibe without relying on transportation.
Amenities reflect practicality and value: free Wi-Fi keeps guests connected, while the fully-equipped kitchen and laundry services cater to those on extended stays or with specific needs. The breakfast, included in the rate, garners mixed reviews; it's basic yet better than typical hostel fare, highlighted for its continental style and variety compared to chain hotels. The bar’s vintage shabby-chic vibe further enhances the social experience, creating a lively space where travelers mingle.
However, honesty about the hostel’s shortcomings adds credibility. The dated building means some areas feel worn—carpets needing replacement and occasional odors near laundry spaces have been noted. Lack of windows that open fully, no gym, and no airport shuttle are small trade-offs in a hostel aimed at the budget-conscious visitor. Moreover, the presence of cats in public areas, while charming to some, raised hygiene concerns among others.
In sum, Hatters Hostel Liverpool delivers a genuine, down-to-earth stay with clean, comfortable beds, a friendly and attentive staff, and an unbeatable location. It embraces its heritage and hostel roots without pretense, offering an honest option for those who respect value and community over luxury. For travelers eager to immerse themselves in Liverpool’s city center atmosphere, without breaking the bank, Hatters Hostel offers a solid, welcoming base from which to explore.

Very friendly. Very helpful. I was in an 8 bunk room but it was split in two. We had a shower problem but maintenance came straight away and fixed it (as best he could) but still only light spray. Kitchen good. Laundry good. Position good. I could walk everywhere and plenty to see. Cavern Club great fun.
Good location, quiet, big rooms, clean bedding, super friendly personnel. The building is dated but it’s just a hostel, not 5 star hotel. In general it is very clean but the carpets need proper washing or replacing as they seem very old. Windows don’t open fully but it is for safety I guess. I would really like it if there was some table in the room to put my things on. I liked the lounge very much.
I stayed here for a night and could not have been happier. Its a hostel, but not far off hotel standard room. Was super clean, and the bed was very comfy. The staff were all really friendly and helpful too, not to mention taking social distancing seriously. QStupid me left a personal item behind, and I called to get it sent to me. Luckily, the chap I spoke with, Junior, was super helpful. He's boxed up.mybitem and printed the courier label for me so its ready to go. Hats off to you guys!! Defo recommend, its in a great location and reasonably priced.
Lovely friendly staff, great breakfast, cheap rates, good location. The rooms are a bit shabby but ok. And the cats are nice but they have pissed or scented on the sofa which is where i put my coat that now smells pretty bad. The smell is very strong around the laundry room too. I saw one up on the bar during breakfast where the cold meat and cheese are. Not very hygienic...
The staff are friendly and accommodating. The building is historic and the bar/dining area is a very fun vibe. It is a very convenient location for arriving from the train station. You do get what you pay for in regards to the rooms. The rooms are stark, but clean. Good choice for a traveler on a budget!
Fabulous, clean, no frills hostel. Family rooms small but immaculate. Perfect for those who just want to rest their heads in a comfy, clean bed without paying through the nose. Bar downstairs has a vintage shabby chic vibe that I fell in love with. Breakfast better than most chain hotels with lots more options and a continental feel. Will definitely be back.
Great hostel! The decoration is really beautiful and the staff is so helpful! I stayed in a shared room and everything was very tied and cleaned. The bathroom was also shared and it was always impeccable, which unfortunately is not that common. The beds have curtains so that you can get some privacy and block the sun. Really loved the place!
I have stayed in a 14-bed hostel room for a weekend. The Good: The staff was extremely nice and helpful. The bed was clean and fairly comfy I must say. The kitchen is fully equipped and looks new (no oven). The location is amazing, you are right in the city centre! The Bad: I wish breakfast was optional, it was super basic, but because it was included in the price you felt inclined to have some. Would have been better off spending a £3 in a shop. The ensuite bathroom needs redecoration asap, as it was not dirty but looked really old. The lock on the toilet door is broken and it takes ages for the hot water to come in the shower (it will though, be patient!). The room was really crowded, there is only a small space between the beds, so if someone leaves their bag on the floor you might trip over it.
